Supposedly he said this to Tony Blair when they were visiting the French Pime Minister. It may or may not be true, but knowing the rapier like sharpness of our President’s intelligence, I tend to believe that he did say it.
Prime minister, not pime minister. Damn typos.
I don’t think he was joking. He was trying to explain why the French economy was in the doldrums. He thought that a socialist nation could not have a word for private enterprise.
