Cheap entrepreneur health insurance?

entrepreneur
I would like to starting my own business and working from home. Does anyone know of any good and cheap health insurance for this? I go to the doctor a lot because of some mystery disease, so I MUST have insurance. (and this health problem is also the reason I have to start working at home.)

Thanks so much if you can help me out!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you have an undiagnosed illness it will be very difficult to find a policy. Most companies in most states will not accept you.

You’ll want to visit a local independent agent. The agent can call the underwriters of all the companies that offer insurance in your state and will be able to find out your options. The plans and premiums are the same whether you use an agent or buy directly from a company.

Do not try to do this over the internet. If you apply with the wrong company you will possibly get declined, which will make it more difficult to find a policy.

You may get answers here concerning medical discount cards. Be very wary of these cards. They are not regulated by the Department of Insurance nor do the people that sell them need to be licensed. This means you have little recourse when you have problems with the plan. If you are tempted by the low price and claims of “save up to 80%” be aware that very few doctors actually take these cards. It does you little good if you have to drive 4 hours to find a doctor that will accept the card. Montana couldn’t find any doctors in the whole state that actually took the card and only one dentist who was on probation for unlawful activities so they banned the sale of the card and fined the company. See this link for more information. Many other states are starting to ban these cards as well.

Before signing up with any discount plan get a list of doctors. If they won’t give you a list consider it to be a scam. Call the doctors on the list to make sure they’re still taking the card (many don’t even know that they’re listed as a provider) and that they’re accepting new patients.

Are you working for a company that provides you coverage right now? I am sure that different states have different guide lines for coverage on previous illness. Will you start your own company or will you work for a company as a consultant. Will you qualify for a business health policy or will you have to go as an individual? These are questions that you will need to know. Call an agent in your area and asked them to help you make these decisions. This is the only way that you are going to find out. Then go from there. My suggestion is that if you have health insurance do not quit your job (if you can help it) until you have another policy in place.

OK, you’re not going to find a private company willing to take you on, if you have a mystery disease.

With health insurance, you get what you pay for – and if you’re 25 and healthy, it’s GOING to cost $250 a month. If you buy off the internet, you’re likely to end up scammed, or buying a NON-INSURANCE product.

So go to your local agent. And realize, that the per capita (per person) health expense per year here in the USA, is $7,000. So you DON’T get it for cheaper than “market rate”.

We have been successful with a medical discount plan. There are no pre-existing condition limits. You can get good coverage for around $50 a month. Often with the discounts I get with this plan I pay less than I used to for copays with insurance.
